Symmetry Reclaimed in Highlands Ranch
The Challenge: Built in the 1990s, this Highlands Ranch home featured a common design trend of the era: an offset, asymmetrical fireplace and a deep, arched TV niche that no longer suited modern technology or aesthetic tastes. The original white-painted built-ins and basic tile surround lacked the scale and visual impact required for a luxury living space. The homeowners wanted to move away from the dated, busy layout and create a clean, modern focal point that restored balance to the room.
The Transformation: As a specialized design-build firm, our priority was to correct the structural asymmetry of the wall. We performed a complete reframing of the living room centerpiece, replacing the offset layout with a perfectly centered, floor-to-ceiling build-out.
The new design is anchored by a high-performance Superior Fireplaces linear gas unit. To create a seamless, high-end look, we wrapped the structure in a sleek white quartz surround that carries from the floor to the mantel. To add organic warmth to the stone, we integrated custom light-wood floating shelves and matching base cabinetry, providing both display space and concealed storage without the clutter of the original design.
High-End Finishes: Every detail was selected for both performance and modern luxury. The Superior Fireplaces unit offers a minimalist, wide-view flame profile that complements the linear design of the quartz and wood elements. We incorporated recessed lighting into the shelving niches to highlight the natural wood grain and ensure the new symmetrical layout serves as a dramatic focal point both day and night.
The Result: The “Kleinbrook” project is a masterclass in modernizing a 1990s floor plan. By stripping away the outdated niches and prioritizing structural symmetry, we transformed a dated living room into a sophisticated, high-end retreat.
